Hello Vince, Alice McPhee Mombourquette alerted me to your message. You say that your John MacPhee was born in Quebec. I am very curious indeed since I have done extensive research on the McPhees -- regardless of the spelling -- in Quebec. Can you tell me when and where he was born in Quebec? Do you know his parents' name? I have come across McPhees at L'Islet, Quebec, although I don't know where that is exactly. They seem to have been there in the 1750s which is very early for Scottish settlement in Quebec. I suspect that they moved to Cape Breton Island, perhaps at the beginning of the 19th century. Could this be your family? I wonder if the first McPhee in that family was a member of the 78th Fraser Highlanders who fought with Wolfe on the Plains of Abraham in 1759 and stayed at Quebec City at least until the regiment was disbanded in 1763. I would certainly love to know more about your family, especially during their stay in Quebec and how and why they moved to Cape Breton Island. I hope to hear from you soon.
