MacPhee Canadian East Coast

Hello,
My mother's last name is MacPhee and I'm trying to do some research into her family history.

With what can be verified I can only go back as far as my great grandfather Burton F MacPhee (born c. 1907 and died c. 1979) he was married to a Cecile Lowe. His father's name was Donald MacPhee although I can't find his date of birth or death anywhere and I don't know where he lived but he died in Ontario.

From what the family knows, apparently my mother's family came to Canada sometime in the late 1700s or early 1800s. We think they originally settled in one of the east coast provinces, but sometime during the mid-late 1800s my family ended up in Ontario.

There is apparently some aboriginal in our history but we don't know exactly where it occured or what tribe.

I'm not really sure how or where to start looking to verify a lot of this information or where I can go to start looking farther back. Any information or help that someone could provide would be appreciated.

Cheers.
