Hello again Al,
I have recently received information that the MacNeils you are researching (I believe they are at Plaister Cove D2 in 1871 family 27 - 27 Catherine widow and 28 - 28 James 48) are the descendants of Hector MacNeil and Mary MacMaster. The land which belonged to Hector was never granted so no land record exists for him.By 1891 the property was divided three ways: Catherine at 27 - 27 and her descendants were on one part, James and his descendants were on another third and the Joseph living with James was on another third. According to oral history in the area James at 28 - 28 was the son of Rory s/o Hector, Joseph living with James was the son of Christy widow in 1871 and Joseph s/o Hector MacNeil. I think that Catherine at 27 - 27 was the widow Alexander MacNeil s/o Hector (I have to check something concerning this, she may have been the widow of a James).
In 1834 I found a land record for Mary MacNeil and her son John MacNeil who were living at Low Point. She was described as the widow of Hector MacNeil and the land was at Hay Cove near the Red Islands. The land was sold to a Lauchlin MacNeil of River Denis. The land record was signed at Low Point and the witness was a MacMaster.
I believe that this is a land record concerning my ancetor Hector Ban MacNeil of the Red Islands whose daughter Mary married James (Malcolm, John, Rory the Piper) MacNeil. They had a large family and I can only find three possible children of 11.I think that the Inverness MacNeils in question are connected.
Bye!Vince MacNeil
