MacMillan of Murlaggan/Glenpean/Callich
In his book, "Camerons", Mr. John Stewart of Ardvorlich stated, "Since I wrote this chapter, there has been published and printed for a private circulation the Reverend Somerled MacMillan's( book), Bygone Lochaber...I would pay tribute to the value of those parts of his work which deal with the descent of the various tribes and families which formed the Clan...it may well be that those (lineages) given by Mr. MacMillan are, where they differr, preferable, for they represent years of diligent research".-end of quote.
Mr. Somerled MacMillan was the historian of my family having had access to family papers in the possession of my father's cousin, Cassie MacMillan of Callich, Finch, Ontario.
John MacMillan of Callich(my gtgt) and his brother, Alexander MacMillan of Callich, settled in Finch Township.Alexander settled on Lot l6, Conc. 2, and John settled first on Lot 22, Conc. 1.
My gtgtgt grandfather, Angus MacMillan of Callich settled on Lot 20, Conc. 1, Finch, and later owned the sawmill on Lot 14, Conc. 3, Finch.Angus' sister, Catharine MacMillan of Callich, married 'Roman' John MacMillan(from Bodenjoig near Loch Garry, Scotland), who settled on Lot 18, Conc. 1, Finch. Many of Roman John's and Catharines descendants live in the vicinity of St. Andrews, Ontario.
Angus MacMillan of Callich's brother, Donald MacMillan, was tacksman of Callich(buried c1807 - Kilmallie graveyard).
John and Alexander MacMillan of Callich and Angus MacMillan of Callich descended from John MacMillan of Glenpean, son of William MacMillan 4th of Murlaggan(See outline of family history in letter written to above mentioned Cassie MacMillan from Somerled MacMillan).Angus MacMillan of Callich, Lot 20, Conc. 1 Finch(born 1766-d.
