According to sources I have consulted, the association with Buchanan is erroneous (this after I wore the tartan for many years!!)

After the clan was dispersed from Ardgour by mercenaries acting for the Lord of the Isles a number of them took refuge with the neighbouring clan McInnis and that is the tartan my family now wears.

On this site some time ago was posted :"The definitive published work on the origins and early history of the MacMasters (in the Scottish highlands) is offered by ClannMac, P.O. Box 144, Paso Robles, CA 93447". Worth checking.
