I recently purchased a copy of the "History of Inverness County" by MacDougall. I was hoping the book would just pop answers out at me as I flipped the pages!!! (Yeah right, haha!) Didn't happen. My Great Great Grandparents were Anne MacMaster (b:March 1848) and Allan "Ailean Ban" MacDonnell (b: Abt. 1841) of Judique. (ch: Marcella, Hugh T., Margaret, Donald A., Andrew & Archibald (twins) and my Gr.Grandfather, Daniel T. (aka Donald) In the book there is the much talked about Donald MacMaster (Weaver) married to Catherine MacEachern with a number of children, one being "Annie". They have her as being married to a John MacDonell. John was the name of my Gr Gr. Grandfather's twin brother. I am either really confused or off by one whole generation! In the 1881 Judique Census Allan's brother, John, and their mother, Margaret (born abt. 1812 in P.E.I!), are living with Allan and Anne and their children in Judique. In 1891 Allan is no longer in the picture, John is the head of household, his elderly mother is still living with them, and Anne is there with her children, but is listed as their domestic! Their Servant!! In 1901 Anne is found in Long Point with her son, Hugh (Sarah Lamey) as the head of the household, along with Margaret (her m-i-l, now 88 yrs of age), and almost all of Hugh's siblings! No John anywhere. In 1911 Anne is still lving with Hugh, Sarah and their 3 sons in Long Point. Margaret has passed since 1901. That's where it ends for me. I have been trying to "find" my MacDonnell line in NS for years, and only recently learned that Anne's maiden name was MacMaster! One more clue... lots more questions! If anyone's got any clues for me, I'd REALLY, REALLY appreciate a heads up. Thanks! Paula *:O) - this message also appeared in the MCMASTER forum - Notify Administrator about this message?
