This is a very late follow-up but I wd be interested in your findings. I have traced back to William McMaster born 1669 in Turnberry and buried in Kirkoswald, married to Marion Limont/Lamont; and their son Alexander who married Grizel Hunter. There is a possible link from them to Hugh and James, the Covenanters who emigrated from Ayrshire to Antrim in the 1770s and thence to S Carolina (Winnsboro) but I have not made that link yet.
