Ron, I am glad to see the name Murdo mentioned as they always carried names on in the families.

Murdo was a cooper and shipowner in Stornoway and was born in 1750 and died in 1820 and Mary (cousin who wrote the letters) said Murdo was a full cousin of John the Planter so don't believe he would be the Forester, that would make my research too easy.

I have ordered the Morrison book, volume four but it might be no help, the genealogy group in Stornoway might be a better place to find more information.
