Good Day Ron, You are my second cousin. Kenneth is also my 3ggrandfather.( My grandfather was Murdock John McLellan, brother to your grandmother Margaret) I would have found this posting earlier but seldom check the Mac spelling. From the information you indicate here you have checked the death and census records for the family. The key to the 4ggrandfather is with the Murdock Mclellan who was the only person in attendance at the farm when the 1861 census was taken. His relationship was not indicated, and took alot of time to prove. The burial plot in Minnedosa has Kenneth and Margaret buried under one stone, spelled McLellan. On the same plot is a stone Marking Murdock McLennan, different spelling. I was in Minnedosa this fall and found a newpaper clipping indicating that Murdock was the brother of Kenneth. So the family story of an argument on the spelling must be true. Anyway, I have known that the Murdock McLennan buried was the son of Murdock McLennan and Janet, who came to Canada from the Inverness area of Scotland in 1801, on the vessel Sarah, to Pictou, Nova Scotia. They settled on land in the McLellan's Mountain area. The land title deeds I saw in Nova Scotia for that land show X's used to sign the transfers, so the spelling was based on whoever filled out the papers. In fact, from deed to deed the spelling was different. I have not yet been able to determine any more siblings for Kenneth or the family of Murdock. But do know that both Kenneth and Murdock stayed close throughout their lives. They moved out of Nova Scotia around the late 1840's to the Huron and Bruce County area of Ontario. Then just after the 1871 census went to Manitoba. Kenneth's property formed part of the town of Minnedosa, with Murdock just South of that area near Cypress River. Anyone, with possible links to these McLennan's, McLellan's, Please respond.
