My great3 grandfather was Ronald (Ranald) McDonell who came over from Scotland with his brother Angus from Morar Scotland in 1826. He was married to widow of James Gillis nee Ann MacLellan. She was born in Morar Scotland circa 1785. Her father was Archibald MacLellan who was born circa 1762 in Swordland, Morar, Scotland. Her brothers were Alexander MacLellan of Southwest Margaree and Neil MacLellan of Broad Cove.

Is there a possibility that Neil MacLellan is your Archibald's father? Have you looked at the 1838 census for Cape Breton. You can borrow a copy through an inter-library loan from Sydney.

Ronald McDonnell settled in Southwest Margaree and Angus settled in Broad Cove.In the 1838 Census they were both living in Broad Cove.

Have you looked in the History of Inverness, District Sketches to see if you can find Neil MacLellan of Broad Cove and his family? It is also available on inter-library loan. Good luck.
