Two sets of McLeans(McLain) spelling changed in South East U.S.
We have two sets of McLain (McLeans) on our tree. John Alexander McLain b. l804 S. Carolina. Oglethorpe Co. Georgia McLeans(McLain) John & Thomas..looking for Elizabeth McLain, may be daughter of Philpott male and Mary Ann Davis further back..does anyoone have either of these lines? Elizabeth was lst or 2nd wife of Thomas.John Alexander McLain descends from Angus McLain b. abt l785 and Mary McInnis,b. l790 she descends from John McInnis. There is an area just across the Miss. Al. border near the coastal areas that was settled by Scots, known back then as "Little Scotland" McInnis, McLains, Griffins, and McLeods, and many others...a lot of people don't know about this settlement.
