Did you ever find an answer to your query about the ship "Ocean" and your Ann MacKinnon MacLEAN and her sister Catherine MacKinnon STEWART?

Do you have a LOT # in PEI ? Have you ever looked at The Island Register online ..for PEI research ? Very good site. I have posted queries there looking for the parents of a John L McLEAN born 1842 and it appears his parents were Allen McLEAN and Christy STEWART ...and there seems to be a MacKINNON connection not yet understood.

I've very curious about your line and what you have learned.

John L. McLEAN b 1842 PEI stated on the 1880 census in Massachusetts that both his parents were born in Scotland. He married Agnes E. MORROW (her mother was TOWNSHEND) and was in Boston MA USA by 1869. He is a great grandfather to an 66 of 67 marker DNA match to my McLAIN line ...but my line was in the Southern part of the USA. Mine were likely in VA, then the Carolinas it seems during the Anerican Revolutionary timeframe. Before 1800 mine were in KY, then TN, IL and back to TN, before my direct line went to AR.

What the DNA is showing is that the family in PEI is directly related to my Southern line, so I suspect that among my McLAIN / McLEAN family that were in North and/or South Carolina in the mid to late 1700s there was one or some that were Loyalists and perhaps a grandfather left and returned to Scotland at some point ...but one or more of his sons and grandsons stayed in America.

Audrey in TN
