Roderick (Rory) came to Broad Cove Shore(Inverness) Cape Breton in 1812 from Prince Edward Island where he had spent about two years after coming from Kilmory, Isle of Rum in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland, in 1810. His wife was Ann MacIsaac from the neighbouring island of Canna. (Two of her brothers were also pioneer settlers of Inverness.) They had seven sons and three daughters, all of whom came to Cape Breton with them or followed later.
Roderick was the son of Murdoch (Kilmory,Rum) son of John "An Gobha Crubach" (the lame blacksmith of Kilmory), son of Rory (Kilmory), son of Archibald (Skye), son of Donald (Gunna), son of Allan McLean of Achanasaul, Isle of Coll. Allan was the son of Hector, the Chieftain of Coll. from there ancestry can be traced back through the Chieftains of Coll and the Chiefs of Duart for many more generations.
My own line descends from two other sons of Roderick, Neil and Donald.
Best regards,
Sandy
