Hi Gordon, Thanks for responding to my post. I had almost forgotten about it. Anyway, we have several family members looking for this couple. They are from accross Canada and the USA. We've looked in the Parishes and census(which doesn't list parents) I've read the Book of Mull People by Jo Currie, Checked Ancestry.com and most family searches I can find. I've tapped into Scotlands people.com and no one can seem to locate the parents of Mary McLean born 1754 and John Lamont born about 1750. I can't even find any McLean married to a Lamont.Their son Duncan Lamont born 20 June 1778 came to Canada in 1821 with his wife Mary McArthur and family in 1821 and he died enroute from Lachine ,Quebec to Kingston,Ontario.within a month of arriving in Quebec. The two oldestsons John and Duncan, and their uncle Neil Lamont(perhaps born 1798 in Torosay,Isle of Mull)who had come over on the boat with them, went to Celedon,Peel county,Ontario where they petitioned for and received grants of land.I have also searched LDS family search and most info comes up until Mary McLean and John Lamont and then it says something about private files which can only be looked at by permission and cannot be photocopied and you have to go to the temple for it. We also would have to produce proof of heritage to see the file. Can you explain this? It seems someone has put a freeze on this info. In 1841 census Mary McLean was living at Ulva Quod Sarca, being part of the United Parish of Kilninian and Kilmore district 1 at Oskamull with her youngest son Allan born 1809 Torosay Argyl Scotland. Mary McLean and John Lamont were in Pennyghael in 1810-1814.This is all the info i can come up with except the names and dates of both families children. If this info would help me find their parents I will give it to you if you let me know. I sure hope you could shed some light on all this for me.We all feel they fell of the edge of the world at this point. Also they spoke Gaelic when they came to Canada so may have been poor I'm assuming. Well I'll leave this with you and hope to hear from you soon Best Regards From Diana Notify Administrator about this message?
