HELP!!!!

My Grandmother on my mothers side is the Daughter of Christine McKinnon (born 1883 in Nova Scotia Died in 1953 in Boston Mass) and Malcolm McLean (born 1885 or 86 in Nova Scotia died 1931 in Boston).

Christine McKinnon was the Daughter of Michael McKinnon and Jessie McLean.

Malcolm McLean was the son of Daniel McLean and Cecilia McKinnon.

The best we can figure is that Christine's Parents were 1st cousins....
Now we got our information from Christine and Malcolms death certificates, but we realize that the information on the certificates are only as reliable as the person who gave the information.

Since I have not had any luck researching this family I am beginning to think that the names they used may not be their legal names. I am also not sure of the original spelling of the last name. My grandmother spelled it McLean and McKinnon but maybe it was different when the family was still in NS.
Thank-you for any leads you can give me.
Debbie
