I also am a descendant of Sir Lachlan Mor Maclean and Margaret Cunningham... apparently through their son Charles Maclean (1592-1649?). Charles is on MANY trees with zero documentation, also Charles' son Hector b. 1660 has zero documentation on these trees and Hector's son John is confusing with immigration, death dates and death places different.

This John McLean b. abt 1690, married Margaret Moore (or Duncan).
John's son Ephraim McLean (1730-1823) married Elizabeth Davidson.
Ephraim's son Charles Mclean (1771-1825) married Sara Pricilla Vance.
Charles' son William W. McLean (1821-1853) married Mary Eleanor Graves.

In A. Maclean Sinclair's book, 'clan Gillean', on page 251, he indicates Charles is the 5th son of Sir Lachlan Mor and Margaret. On page 175, he indicates a 27 Jul 1620 complaint to the Privy Council by Hector Macneill of Taynish, employed by the friends of the House of Argyll, who were acting for the young Lord Lorn, to plant the Isle of Jura with good tenants and to see them suitably settled; that he was interupted in that work by Charles Maclean, brother of Hector Maclean of Duart, who came to the island with a number of mastiff dogs, chased away the cattle, and assulted and terrified the new tenants; and that the said Charles Maclean threatened to return with a large force. Hector Og and Charles his brother were both proclaimed rebels. Macneill of Taynish was expelling Macleans from Jura and introducing Campbells in their place.

I can find no further history or documentation for Charles Maclean after 1620.

Hector Og Maclean of Duart (15th Clan Chief) died 1623 according to Maclean clan genealogy records and was succeded by his son Lachlan Mor (1583-1626) who became 16th Clan Chief of Duart.

Hector Og's siblings:
Lachlan Og Maclean - was the progenitor of the later Macleans of Torloisk.
Allan Maclean - lived at Carnnacaillich in Morvern; married a daughter of Allan Maclean of Ardtornish.
Gillean Maclean - "of Coull" (Coll?); married a daughter of Allan Maclean of Ardtornish.
Charles Maclean - lived in Mull; married a daughter of Hector, 8th of Lochbuie (Anna?).
Berthag Maclean - only daughter of Sir Lachlan Mor, married Hector Odhar, 9th of Lochbuie.

If anyone can help with history or documentation on Charles Maclean (son of Sir Lachlan Mor Maclean), or Charles' son Hector Maclean, I would greatly appreciate it... hitting brick walls!

Thanks, Barb
