Hi,
This has been the subject of many queries, some even posted on Nova Scotia and Cape Breton lists. I was told when in Cape Breton at the Highland Center, that there are no Mc's only lazy Mac's. Even the registries have added to the error. My father signed a lot of his papers with capital M then raised C with two line struck beneath the C. He told me that was the short way and the two short lines took the place of the A. My oldest brother and sister had their births recorded as MacKinnon, my 2 younger brothers and myself ended up with Mckinnon. My grandparents were MacKinnon and McKinnon depending on the record. Talk about Mac and Mc confusion. I really used MacKinnon through school. Where do I stand now? Got married and solved the problem.
