Good to hear from you. I am looking for any descendents of a James Bryce Mackie (born Stewarton Ayrshire Scotland in 1833). He emigrated to Australia and took part in the Ballarat goldrush in 1851. In Melbourne he resumed his profession of hatter (the bonnet making company founded by his brother in 1843 is still going and is owned by my brother). David was known to be still alive in 1917, the year of his brother's death. Your grandmother could have been David's granddaughter. Interestingly James's younger brother was a David Mackie. Have no further info but anything you could supply would be of much interest.
Regards
Thorold Mackie
