Looking for information on James Mackie who was a merchant in Liverpool around 1800. He was born 1776, in Manchester accordin to the 1851 census, and he died in 1858 in Hindley. He married Alice Cloughi n 1801 at St. Oswalds, Winwick Parish. The Mackie's were Presbyterian and they were married by a special license from the Bishop of Cheshire. It was also signed by William Leyland. The marriage was witnessed by William Marsh and Jonathan Thomason. Alice was born in 1781 in Ashton (1851 census) and died in 1856 in Hindley. I have the names of their children, but it may not be a complete list: Ann, born 1804 in Liverpool, but bapt. at the Presbyterian church in Allostock, Cheshire. Never married and died in 1879. William, b. 1805, Lowton, never married, died 1880, buried HIndley. James, b. 1819, bapt. Newbent Presbyterian, Chowbent, died 1823, buried Hindley. Sarah, b. 1822, Newbent PResbyterian, Chowbent. John Clough Mackie (my direct ancestor), b. 1816, bapt. Hindley Presbyterian, died 1864 Castle Hill, Hindley. He was an auctioneer. He married Elizabeth Ramsdale in 1846 at Hindley All Saints. She was born in 1825 in Hindley and died in 1879, buried in Hindley. Is anyone searching for the same Mackie's? Can anyone tell me where James Mackie came from? Does anyone know much about early Presbyteriniasm in SW Lanc? Thanks for any help. Cheers! Heather Kramer Notify Administrator about this message?
