MACKEYs of Lancaster Co. PA & Warren Co. IL

I have posted some of this information on this board before as a reply to an older post. Other information given here is new.

I have come across 3 Mackeys, possibly siblings, who all appear to have connections to Lancaster county, Pennsylvania and Warren county, Illinois. All 3 are believed to have arrived in Warren county, Illinois about 1840. Here they are, in order of their age:

1 - Richard MACKEY, born about 1807 in Pennsylvania. His wife was Elizabeth Jane, maiden name and marriage information unknown, born about 1817 in Pennsylvania. Richard appeared in both the 1840 and 1850 census of Warren county. He was the father of four children shown in census records, all born in Illinois: Mary E. b. abt. 1838, Lydia b. abt. 1843, George b. abt. 1846, and Sarah b. abt. 1848. Richard and family are missing from the 1855 Illinois state census. His wife and children reappear in Sadsbury township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania in the 1860 census. I have not found any record that Richard died in Illinois, but it is possible.

2 - Maria MACKEY, born 18 August 1808 in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania. She married Hiram BALDWIN (b. 9 December 1808 in Chester county, PA) in Chester county, PA on 18 March 1831. Son James W. was born 1833 in Lancaster county, and son George W. was born 1835 in Lancaster according to a published biography. Hiram Baldwin and sons operated the Baldwin House in Monmouth, with their guest list including Abraham Lincoln.

3 - James D. MACKEY, born 23 November 1816 in Pennsylvania, and died 11 June 1861 in Monmouth, Warren county, Illinois. James was shown in the 1840 census, and was living with presumed brother Richard and family in the 1850 census. He married Mary FERRINGTON, a native of Pennsylvania, in Monmouth on 8 May 1851. They are shown in the 1855 Illinois census and the 1860 US census in Monmouth. Five children were born to the marriage, with only one child surviving his father by six months. One child was an unnamed daughter, while the name of another child has eroded from the family marker and cannot be read. They had a daughter Martha, and two sons, Elkanah F. and Lewis C. Mackey. The name Elkanah is interesting, as a noted Rev. Elkanah Mackey was a native of Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, born about 1823. I think there is a good chance that there was some kind of connection.

James D. Mackey's widow remarried to Samuel David Hallam in Monmouth during 1866. Mary was the mother of 3 children in that marriage, all of whom grew to adulthood. Mary was my wife's gg-grandaunt.

If anyone is interested in this family, I could look for more information in Warren county. I would also be interested in any information on the family that others have to share.
