I received your post on the Macke/Mackey. The Mackey's that I have connection to lived in Seymour, Jackson County, Indiana.I have just got back into looking up information on the Macke/Mackey Family again. I have discovered more information in the last 4 months then what I expected.
I know that the orginal spelling of Mackey is Macke. Macke is the German spelling and Mackey is the English (England) spelling. The spelling was changed by Census takers, courts, and etc. I also know that some of the Macke/Mackey moved around, but I haven't found connections yet. I know that my great-grandparents use to live up around the Indianapolis area at one time, because my grandparents where married there. So there had to be relatives that lived in the area.
I have found where John Henry Macke(my g-g-grandfather), Frederick Macke (possiably the father), Louis Macke(possibly a brother), and Harmon (Harry) Macke (posssibly a brother) applied the Intension for Citizenship in Bartholomew County in 1868. The papers are at the Indiana Archives in Indianapolis, Indiana. I made plans to go there this month to make copies of them. Send me your e-mail address and I will let you know what I find out. I am hopeing that afterwards that I will be able to discover the other Macke/Mackey that are out there. Louis and Harry Mack/Mackey moved further North of Bartholomew County.
There is a William F. Mackey, my g-grandfather, (Macke was the orginal spelling until my Anut's had the monument replaced) and another William Mackey buried at White Creek Mediodist Church in Bartholomew County. Haven't been able to make connection of them, because I haven't been able to catch anyone at the church.
