Rev. Orlando Mack 1773-1820 & other Orlando Macks
I have been researching the Mack family for over 30 years and have been stumped by the numerous Orlando Macks living in New York the first half of the 1800s... until recently!A few months ago I literally closed myself into my den for a weekend with all my Mack papers and sorted the mess out.Biggest lesson learned: do NOT trust printed genealogies, DAR applications or Ancestry trees!!!
Rev. Orlando Mack was born in Hebron, CT in 1773 and died in Cato, Cayuga Co., NY in 1820. He was the son of Orlando Mack and Mehitable Chapman. He did not marry Lucy Baldwin and his mother was not Lucy Baldwin.
If you search online you will find dozens of people claiming Orlando was born 1747, married first to Mehitable Chapman and second to Lucy Baldwin. This is absolutely false. The primary sources are very clear: the Orlando Mack born in 1724 in Hebron married first to Abigail Andrus/Andrews and second to Mehitable Chapman. His will of 1803 in Harpersfield, NY mentions his widow Mehitable and in the will of his son Joel (by his first wife) Joel mentions his step-mother Mehitable.
The Orlando born in 1747 died in 1762 in Hebron.
The Orlando who married Lucy Baldwin was born between 1775 and 1784 and died in 1813 in Genoa, Cayuga Co., NY. I believe this Orlando WAS the father of an Orlando, Mandana, Lucy, Almira and Daniel.I do not know who this Orlando's parents were. Any ideas?
As for Rev. Orlando (1773-1820); I believe he married Abigail Beadle of Colchester, CT and had children, Benjamin, born about 1795, 2 girls born 1794-1800, Orlando, b. 1803, Horace, b. 1806, Joel, b. 1810 and Hiram, b. 1811. After Rev. Orlando's death in 1820, his widow Abigail married John C. Barnes of Cato; is with son Horace in the 1850 census in Summit Co., OH and with son Joel in 1860 in Marshall, MI where she died in 1862.
I am descended from his son Benjamin, born about 1795 and died 1824, buried in Camillus, Onondaga Co., NY.
I have information on some of the other Orlandos and would enjoy defending my assertions here if anyone disagrees!
