Mary Mack Pyle from Vermillion Indiana
Mary Mack Pyle was the wife of William Pyle. William and his brother Samuel left Eugene Township, Indiana in 1852 and traveled overland to Sutterville, California. Mary Mack Pyle picked up the children and traveled to California in 1854 by traveling across Panama, led by an Indian guide. She reunited with her husband at Sutter's Fort. Samuel Pyle returned to Helt Township, Vermillion County Indiana to marry Nancy Hammond. Samuel and Nancy were the grandparents of Ernie Pyle, war correspondent.
