Hi, Maciel is a Portuguese name - I notice it is also Spanish.My brother also told me that the origin is French.
I was looking up genaology of Madeira Island which is where my family is from.I found a reference to a couple of Maciels who came from a town in northern Portugal in the fifteen hundreds when the island was being populated.
