Placido J. Machan was born in Occidental Negros in the Phillipines Aug. 1, 1900. He came here around 1914 with his cousin Jacinto Javier and joined the Navy. He was a career man. Filipinos were only allowed to be stewards onboard ships at that time. He died in NYC in 1967. He raised my husband, but as it turns out he was actually my husband's first cousin once removed. My husband's birthfather, Jacinto Javier, was Mr. Machan's first cousin. All in the family!
I don't know much more than that right now. We haven't had contact with relatives in the Phillippines for some time.
