I am researching the 76th McDonald Highland Regiment of Foot, of which John MacGillivray was a member.

He was born ca. 1758 in Rigg, Snizort Parish, Isle of Skye. He was consicripted in 1780, and his regiment occupied Portsmouth, Virginia during the Rev War. They surrendered at Yorktown, and John was imprisoned until 1783, after which he moved to Nova Scotia and then to Albany, NY.

John married Janet McLeod. They had five children, two of which were Christa and Daniel. Daniel later changed the family name to MacGillvra. John's parents were Alexander MacGillivray and Katherine McIntyre.

I would appreciate any information on John. His brother Alexander also served in the Regiement.
