According to the 1920 U.S. Census of Carbondale, Jackson County, Illinois, they are all brothers and are the sons of Duncan Macfarlane (born about 1859 in Canada, immigrated to the U.S. in 1891, and naturalzied in 1915)and his wife Clara (born about 1871 in Illinois).

The sons were all listed as being born in Kansas.
