I found your posting on a genealogy search and thought I'd throw my "two cents worth" in...

A few years back when I retired from the military, I went on a quest to find where and how the Macek Name came to be in America, and where and how the family was disbursed. I did a lot of research, as I had a lot of time on my hands.

Immigrants from Europe who came through Ellis Island were often reassigned names to better accommodate the "English speaking" authority. Several Slavic and Polish names were changed to Macek, but as far as my family goes, we were changed from Machechowski to Macek. The other primary Macek clan came from the name Machezowitchz (I may not have spelled that correctly).

My family settled in the area of North Adams, Massachusetts. The others, went in the direction of Pennsylvania. These two families were not related, but were largely responsible for spreading the Macek name in the U.S.

I had always thought that I had a very uncommon name, but there are thousands of us, in every state, in every walk of life. From laborers to lawyers, cooks to CEO's, the Macek name is prevelant. United Technologies Inc. seems to have hired a bunch of us!

If you are interested in sharing more info - please reply. I'd be happy to share!

Take care, and God Bless

John Macek
