Hi,

Ljupco, you don't have a relative called Zare Kostovski, living in Melbourne, do you? If so, we're related. He is married to my cousin, Vera (nee Tasevski).

Zare is probably the best of the "young ones" in the family that I know to tell anyone about Dragos. He has travelled back there quite often, and has photo's and mementos from the village. My Uncle Chris travelled there in the 70's, before many of the houses fell down or were demolished, so we have a few photo's too.

Unfortunately, the latest I heard about Dragos is that it is virtually a ghost town, with only two elderly ladies of the approx. 500 families who used to live there staying on.

However, every August, there is "Slava" where families travel from all over the world to meet and celebrate.

We have a pretty arial photo of Dragos, looking toward the Greek border, which was part of a calendar produced in Australia by the Macedonian community. It shows a pretty wooded hill and the village.

My grandfather, Mihailo Tasik (or Tasevski) was born 3 March 1892 in Dragos. He and his father Ilija went back and forth to the US, working in Chicago and Detroit, but they returned to Dragos in 1919.

Mihailo emigrated to Australia in 1926, where he married my grandmother in 1946. His older children and their descendants all live in Australia and Canada, to my knowledge.

I don't recognise the name Grdanov, but perhaps some of the older emigrees in Melbourne might have some memories for you. If you would like to contact them, my mother Marilyn and I would be happy to help. If you were interested in travelling for Slava, we can find out the dates for you.

Michele
