James O. Wilkinson committed the murders. He was the son of James Wilkinson and Meddis East and was about 20 or 21 at the time of the murders.

Interesting enough I know all about the John James Wilkinson to whom you refer. He was born in 1831 in Casey County Ky. He was the son of William Franklin Wilkinson and Jane Jones. They immigrated to Greene Co. IL also but settled out East of town. John James Wilkinson is what alot of people mistakenly refer to him as but that is not his name. It is John Jones Wilkinson. He is my 2nd Great Grandfather on my fathers side. I inherited a family keepsake that explained a great deal of this to me and had a picture of John Jones Wilkinson and some of his family. I've got it all laid out on ancestry.com and if you'd like I can send you an invite so you can view it all at your leisure - just send me an email that is good for you.

The James O. Wilkinson (son of James & Meddis) is related to me through my mothers side. She was also a Wilkinson when her and my father married. They didnt know it at the time but they were 5th cousins. Mom's family had all descended from James Wilkinson & Meddis East of the Patterson & White Hall area of Greene Co and Dad's family had all descended from William Franklin Wilkinson & Jane Jones of the Barrow & Roodhouse area of Greene Co.

I know this all sounds very confusing but I have worked long and hard to substantiate this information and wouldnt say any of this without knowing it to be accurate.

Tim
