Attached is a post I have recently added to this forum and as you can see the Mace family that I am related to started in Woolwich, Kent. If you have any details of Samual Mace (born abt 1806 based on 1841 census) I would be very grateful.
Alice Elizabeth Mace born 16th Feb 1872 in Bray, Maidenhead, UKwas my great grandmother. Her siblings were Frances (born abt 1868), Sydney (abt 1870). Maybe other after this I don't know. By the time she married my great grandfather on 25 Dec 1892 at St Mary Newington London, the family was living in Islington London.
They appear in the 1871 register for Bray, Maidenhead. The mother Jane Mace (Jane Eliza Green) is shown as 26 years old and was born in Boyn Hill, Maidenhead. The father is Charles Gordon, 30, born in Woolwich, Kent.
Her father, although shown as Charles Gordon here, appears as Charles William Henry Mace on Alice's marriage certificate and Charles Gordon on her birth certificate.
We are almost certain they are the same people from their professions (bricklayers) and what my Great Aunt, Alice's youngest from her 3rd marriage and Aunts and Uncles, who all knew her well, have told me. He is my 2nd Great Grandfather. He was born 22 Jun 1840 in Thomas St, Woolwich, Kent. He appears in the 1841 register for Thomas St with the following family Ann , 60 presumably his grandmother, Samuel, his father 35, a bricklayer, Louisa (I believe Mildenhall), 35, Louisa 14, Francis, 10, Caroline, 7 and Catherine 4. In the census the name is spelt Mase.
I would be very interested in hearing from anyone who could help me further with this.
