MacDonald Soldiers Cove Cape Breton NS
Hi, Any Mac/McDonalds out there from Soldiers Cove,Cape Breton, N.S.? My great grandfather was John H.(Hugh?) Mc/MacDonald (b. 1840,d.Dec 10,1913)married to Mary Gillis (b.1842, d.Jun 2,1906).My great, great grandfather is romoured to be "Hughie the Soldier",one of the veterans of the 104th New Brunswick Regiment of Foot, after whom Soldiers Cove (formerly, Laugh-at-the-Yankee Settlement, and even earlier, Lewis Cove)was named. My grand father was John Archibald MacDonald (b.Mar15,1877,d.Sept27,1961),married to Johanna Bridget McCarthy(b.May18,1881,d.Dec1,1957).My father, Peter Donald MacDonald (b.Dec5,1918,d.Sept 3,1977),though born in St.Peters, lived in Antigonish,N.S.,as did I until moving to British Columbia. I'd be happy to share or receive any info on the early days in Soldiers Cove. Thanks.-My e.mail at work is [email protected]
