Thanks Alastair for your suggestion. According to the descendants of the Kettle MacDonalds, the place from where they came in Scotland sounded (in gaelic) something like "call-ya-cull". Which apparently means steaming kettle. It got its name supposedly from the georgraphy. The area was a depression in the ground surrounded by hills where the mist would linger long afrer it disappeared from the rest of the countryside and from a distance had the appearance of a steaming kettle.
The descendants are also quite adamant that the Kettles came from Moidart.
I appreciate any and all suggstions.
