MacDonald in Nova Scotia is like Smith and Jones elsewhere. Start with : where was your grandfather born? Town, county, Cape Breton? Mainland?

What was his religeon? Lots of church records available. See Cape Breton GenForum Site.

Check out the Family History Site of the LDS Mormon Church. You can access them on the internet, but if you don't find him there, remember that most of their records are on film or fiche and can be accessed by visiting your closest LDS FHC and ordering film for a nominal fee.

Years ago, families were very large and many members emigrated "out west" or to the "Boston States" to find jobs. In many cases, all contact was lost.

Continue your search. The records are there waiting.
