Brian,I would love to know where you can buy that book, Archibald was also one of our ancestors and when i did a dateline for all the MacDearmids ( and all the variants)there were a number of Archibalds, Alexanders figured as well, I still have a huge amount of info that I am having difficulty putting into order (fell, and broke my right shoulder ,needs an operation to fix and yes I am right handed)that I got from the Inverness library and Alsatair McLeod and the Dunvegan castle records, what I thought is that as I had limited time I would write down every connection that has a MacDearmid and sort them out later, some are so interesting, one John MacDearmid was a drummer boy at Culloden, there are terrific records in book form that the Gaelic society prepares from ancient records,i looked at some of these as well and copied out the MacDearmid references but there are many books, but the big catch is they are not for sale and one cannot join this society as it a matter of being asked to join it seems such a waste of great reference material if the public cannot access it.
I will be slowly putting all this info onto our list it may well be of help to someone,I found also ancestors of Archibald living at Waternish nar the tip of Skye, these guys knew five generations of MacDearmids from their heads including wives and children ,incredible!! and better that that they are related to us and gave me lots of info,
It seems to me that there is a great deal more information on highland families that is available through the usual sources, its a shame that it was not more available to researchers.
Keep you posted.
Best Wishes.
Ray Gavan, phew!!! that was all left hand!!
