Hello Chris, We may well be related. The use of similar names in the different branches of the MacCarthy/McCarthy family (both spellings of the surname were used by different branches and even by the same persons)was very frequent. So, whilst 'William Justin' may be a coincidence, it could point to a connection - especially as the names 'James' and 'Thomas' were also frequently used. I haven't got a Timothy, but... I have for some time been trying to make a definite connection between a branch in the United States with names tantalisingly similar to those of siblings and cousins of my great-great-great-great uncle (I think in the US you say great-great-great granduncle), Denis MacCarthy. Some of his descendants came from Newington in Surrey (now London) - and from my research I feel sure (but haven't absolute proof) that one or more must have emigrated to the US in the late 1800s - and I think I recall seeing a Timothy among several McCarthys in records at Newington whose relationship I could not verify with 'our' branch of the family. If you e-mail me at dpjphillips@yahoo.co.uk and therefore give me your e-mail address (or if you prefer your postal address), I would be happy to send you an extract from the tome I've compiled on the family history, to see if it helps in any way. Additionally, when I can next find time to go up to London (I live in Surrey, England), I'll see if I can track down a Timothy in the Newington records - but that may not be for a little while. Nevertheless you have sparked off renewed interest for me in this branch, where I thought I'd reached a brick wall. I look forward to hearing from you.
