Can anyone give me information on Hugh MacAulay who changed his name to Boyd to inherit his mothers family estate.
I have read from the Macaulay site his father was Alexander Macaulay III and his mother was Margaret Boyd.
They had Alexander IV in 1734 and Hugh in 1746 plus 2 other daughters.
I am interested in this family as I have Macaulay, Boyd, and Carrick in my line. I cannot find anything on line which shows anything more about this family.
Does anyone know who Margaret Boyd was and what sort of estate was it Hugh to inherit. And why would he inherit his mothers estate when his older brother Alexander would have been intitled first?
