Hi Lisa thanks for your reply. This would not be the same Norman at all, but as same Christian names tend to repeat over and over in generations of families perhaps there is a connection. Other male names that I know of in my Macaskill line are John Ian Donald Neil. I would really like to establish what became of my gggrandfather John Macaskill, did he go on to marry and have a legitimate family, did he emigrate, did he remain in Berneray. I am doing some research in North Uist in August so may be able to turn something up. There is a real nice guy in Toronto called Blair Macaulay who has researched everyone born in North Uist before 1871, if your Macaskill line has Uist connections he is the man to contact. Or Bill Lawson who has researched all the Outer Hebridean families including the emigrants to North America and Australia.
