William born about 1827 from Edinburgh, Scotland, died in 1886 at Wagga Wagga, NSW (from NSW BDM - death, parents Alexander and Elizabeth). He married Sarah Hopkins born about 1827, Wicklow, Ireland and died in 1895 at Hurstville, NSW and buried at Rookwood with a granddaughter (Oakes). They had the following children:

Elizabeth Ann Hopkins Macarthur born 1864 Wagga Wagga died 1941 North Sydney married William F Oakes 1893 Newtown
William E Macarthur born 1867 Wagga Wagga died 1867 Wagga Wagga
Sarah M Macarthur born 1867 Wagga Wagga
Mary F Macarthur born 1867 Wagga Wagga died 1921 Muswellbrook
