Hi, I recently came across a tragic old news photo from 1930. It featured a picture of a small boy's body covered with a sheet. He had been struck and killed by a milk truck on Catherine Street in NYC. The small boy was identified as one "Roy Macaluso" who had been playing in the street when he was hit by the truck. It made me wonder if he still had any relatives that were out there and if they were aware that their was a picture of this event taken. I know many times we hear about family tragedies, that our grandfather/father's younger brother was killed in a traffic accident when he was a boy. But that's all we ever know. The fact there is a picture of the accident scene, with the milk truck driver being interviewed by the police might be of great interest to some still living members of the immediate family. So if your last name is Macaluso, and you know of a young boy in your family who was killed in a traffic accident in 1930 in New York City - on Catherine Street to be exact - this may be of great interest to you.
The picture surfaced online due to the San Fransico Examiner's entire news photo archives (from 1905 - 1990) being purchased by a clearing house and now they sell these pictures individually to collectors online via ebay. The posted Roy's photo on their website due to Ebay not allowing certain types of "death" photos and WWII images to be auctioned on their website. The photo of Roy's death is not gory, but it is extremely sad. All you see are two tiny little legs, from beneath the sheet, nothing else.
I just wanted to post this info. somewhere since it such a rare thing to have some actual living history of a family tragedy surface. If you are a distant or immediate family member interested in this please post and I will direct you to the photos location if you wish.
