That is interesting. You might be quite correct. There is no reason to believe that she actually knew the specifics of his enlistment. It is possible that the 1850 census data for David Mabe is wrong. But, given his disappearence in 1860 and the fact that his children were living as orphans(?) suggests that the census ages may have been correct. However, if that is correct, then some of the 1850 children would have to be his grandchildren. This is a serious problem.
