Yes Caleb was the Count's father, no question about that. Caleb was in the Revolutionary War. From what I can make out Caleb was in the area where Americans were rescued by a French fleet commanded by Count DeGrasse of France. Caleb named his son after him. He often went by C.D.G. Hastings. My problem is that I can't confirm the Count is my ancestor. My ggg grandfather was a Henry Hastings born 1806. From his tombstone it appears he was born about Oct., but the number of days has worn away. In 1850 Henry listed his birthplace as Massachusetts, in 1860 New Hampshire. Henry & the Count were always living within a few miles of each other, & shared the same occupation of furniture maker. The Count had 3 sons from an earlier marriage than had to occur around 1803. Much is known about his 2nd marriage, but nothing about the first. The Count had a brother Naaman. My line later moved to a town where Naaman's son Lewis was living, saying he was family. Naaman didn't marry until 1809, so he isn't Henry's father.
