Seeking information to extend my family tree on my father's side:
My great grandfather was Charles M. Hall of Nantucket born 1868.
His parents were Davis Hall of Nantucket (1830-1906) and Lydia G. Gifford (b. 1834). (The Gifford side is well documented by the Historical Society, but the trail on the Hall side grows cold after Davis).
I've read that there was a famous Nantucket basket-maker named (Captain?) Davis Hall who lived almost the same years as my great-great-grandfather... but although he was also a sailing man, I don't think he was the same Davis Hall.
When I was a child, my parents found records in Nantucket indicating Davis Hall's father was also named Davis Hall, that his father was Job Hall, and then there was another Job Hall who may have been the father or grandfather of the later Job Hall. We have just a few sketchy notes to this effect.
Any help would be most appreciated.
