Samuel is on the 1880 census of New Bedford, Bristol Co, MA (page 29) with his parents, siblings, wife, and first child. French names are almost always butchered by the census taker. In 1880 it appears to be written as "Shavener". The father is listed as Newell which is a misspelling of Noel. Samuel's wife Philomene is listed as "Flora"
Noel Charbonneau died 22 Sep 1908 in New Bedford (Maybe the local paper has an obit). He was listed as age 74yrs 8mos 25days, male, widowed, Carpenter, son of Louis and Marie (Gamarche) Charbonneau. That's probably a misspelling of Gamache. Informant was Melanda Robiard. I did find that one of the Charbonneau daughters married William Robillard in about 1886 NBed. I believe Robillard is the correct spelling.
Mathilde (Noel's wife) died in 1896 New Bedford, but I don't have access to the record. You could call the city clerk for it. The only thing I can say is that she is listed as Mathilde (Boudreau) Charbonneau on that record. Her son Joseph's marriage c1906 New Bedford shows her maiden name as Dondreau or Doudreau, but like I said French names are often butchered.
If you run the name Noel Charbonneau on www.familysearch.org you will see there are some entries for this family placing them in St-Cyprien and St-Valentin Quebec. Family search has Noel's wife as Domithilde Boudreau and their marriage in 1857. The names of the children don't match very well, but it was often the case that French baptised with several names. Your Samuel could have been bapt as "Joseph Samuel" or something like that. The dau Melanda is "Mary Ann" on her marriage record and the child Clara is "Georgianna" on her marriage record.
