Girczyc/Lopata - Ipswich, MA early 20th century
Interested in learning more about the Konstanty Girczyc who was in Ipswich, MA from about or before 1909.In 1909 sister-in-law Jadwiga Lopata (born abt 1890 by her stated age) appears in ship passenger records arriving from Lipnishki on the President Grant sailing out of Hamburg and arriving in NY on 16 April 1909; she states her destination is to her brother-in-law Konstanty Girczyc in Ipswich, MA; her relative back home was Michal Lopata. My grandmother was Ludwika Lopata, also from around Lipnishki/Wiergani area, who emigrated and settled in Ipswich, MA (father Wincenty Lopata, mother Mary Kijanka); she married 1st Jan (John) Szulejko. One of her old letters from relatives back in Europe during the 1950s was from a Konstanty Girczyc; don't know if it's the same as the one in Ipswich. Hard to say if he went back and forth to Europe or if it's a different person entirely. However, one of Ludwika's daughter's godparents was listed as Konstanty Girczyc. All were then living in Ipswich. Don't know if Jadwiga and Ludwika were related (odds are yes, but I don't discount coincidence.) Lipnishki is today in Belarus. The 1945/46 phone directory for Ipswich lists among others a Konstanty Girczyc (wife: Mary). The Ellis Island site lists a Konstanty Girczyc arriving in 1913 to go to his brother Kasimir in Wisconsin.Again, could be a different Konstanty Girczyc.Would like to learn more about all involved and their connections, if any.
