Hoods: Salem MA to Maine to Allegany County, NY
Am looking for information ona Moses Hood & his descendents. (He fought in the Revoltionary War.) It looks like he and his wife and a young female were living, in Salem, Essex, MA at the time of the 1790 Census. This Moses may be the father of two older children namedMoses R (b. abt 1768 in Maine...possibly Kennebec) and John (b. abt 1770 in Kennebec, Maine.) John married Martha Stewart (b. 1772 in Massachusetts.Or it is Moses R himself...can't tell.
Moses R and John moved to the wilderness of Amity Township, Allegany County in Western NY State in the early 1800s.
Moses married a much younger gal named Charlotte (b. 1807 in NY).Their son William married a local girl, Ellen and they had a son Fred.
It looks like John and Martha (Stewart) Hood had at least 3 children:
(Son) I.B.A.or Iba or I. Ba..(b. Maine, 1804-1832). (The tombstone reportedly is difficult to read).
(Daughter) Mary Ann (b. Maine, 1806d.1841) married Thomas Lewis. (2 children: Martha E. and John Llewellyn)
(Son) John (b. Maine 1808, d. 1894) He married later in life to Caroline Meikle (b. 1833 in Rhode Island to parents who both were from Scotland.) NOTE:John and Caroline had one son, John Jr.AND, in her old widowed old age, Caroline lived with her great-nephew Walter Brightman Wright and his family on Knights Creek Rd in Scio, Allegany, NY.
Does this ring any bells with anyone?Several of these Hoods are buried in the Norton Cemetery on Rt 19 (main Rd) between Belmont and Scio.
