Death of Andrew Jackson Litton (1829 - 1878) and Brothers in Catawba County, NC

The Lytton Study Group records show that Andrew Jackson Litton, son of Hiram Litton, died of smallpox in 1878. It also states that his brothers, Isaac, Joseph, and William died of smallpox. Do we know for sure that his brothers died of smallpox and, if so, did they die during the same epidemic as Andrew? I ask this because I’m finding Civil War records with a Isaac, Joseph, and a William Litton/Litten. These men are all really too old to be in the army especially back then. They are in their forties. These ages would be the age of Hiram’s sons and, with the exception of William, I can find no other persons in the census reports, who could be Isaac and Joseph. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Greg
