I will look forward to hearing from your cousin!I don't know if our Lyons families connect or not, but there is a possibility.I suspect, but cannot prove, that "my" Elizabeth Lyons was the daughter of William Lyons and Mary McKee.I know that couple existed and in the right time frame, but again, information does not seem to be available on their family nor on the parents and siblings of Elizabeth Lyons.
In trying to find something, I gathered up what little information there was on any Lyon or Lyons family in Washington and Allegheny family.I cannot tie to any of these yet, nor can I tie your James Lyons to any of them, but here is what I received from the Westmoreland County Register of Wills.
The following are all letters of administration:
William Lyon - letters granted 29 Dec 1784 to Mary Lyon and James Kinkead, Esquire.
Thomas Lyons - letters granted 19 Feb 1785 to John Wright, having given bond.Eliazar Powel and Hanns(?) Ireland Sureties.
This is the only will found:
James Lyons - Died 30 May 1817, will given orally on his death bed to Matthew and James McLaughlin.Everything to go to James's wife (unnamed) for the use of the family as she saw fit.William to be bound to a trade at the age of fourteen and Samuel to live with his mother.(It is assumed that William and Samuel were James's sons.)
I'm afraid that's all I have.
Given your last name, I have to ask if you are related to the Schall family that lived in and around Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County.Anna Mary, a granddaughter of Elizabeth Lyons and her first husband, Daniel Swank, married a George A. Schall prior to 1920.
Mary Lou
