LYON connection to the Queen Mum

Yes, the Queen Mum is, indeed, a LYON, as in BOWES-LYON, but she is a WINDSOR by marriage, not by birth. (WINDSOR is a made-up surname adopted by the royal family during the First World War to distance themselves from their German ancestry.)
