Jacob Lynd died in Meadville, Linn County, Missouri on Oct 27, 1924. His Missouri Death certificate says he was born June 8, 1832, in New York State. His father's name is "Leonard Lynd" and his mother's name is "Maria Fosmire". See http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/#search

A newspaper clipping in my possession reports on the sixty-nineth wedding anniversary of he and his wife commenting: "Mr and Mrs. Jacob Lynd of this city yesterday celebrated the 69th anniversary of their marriage." ...... "They were married near Rochester, N. Y., Feb. 22, 1854, coming to Meadville fifty-five years ago. . .Jacob Lynd was born near Albany, N. Y about 91 years ago."

However, the 1865 Orleans County Census--Township of Murray, seems to disagree on his birthplace.
LYND, Jacob 34 M Monroe Farmer 10-D1
Delilah 29 Wife Rensselaer
Della 10 Daug Monroe
Leonard 4 Son Orleans
Emeline 2y 9m Daug Orleans

The oldest daughter was born in Monroe County indicating that the Lynd family lived in Monroe County near Rochester in 1855.

Lynd family tradition preserves the memory of a Sidney Lynd as Jacob's older brother. There is a 20 year old Sidney Lynd in the 1850 Federal Census for Monroe County New York, but I've not found other Lynd evidence in the 1850 census for Monroe County. At 18 Jacob should appear somewhere in the 1850 census. And, 33 year old Leonard has already seemingly abandoned Monroe County and returned to Poestenkill. And what happened to "Maria"? Perhaps she died making room for Agnes. In subsequent census records there are "Fosmire" individuals counted in both Monroe and Rensselaer Counties. It is the Fosmire/Vosmyer name on that Death Certificate that makes all this a consideration.

Moreover, there is a woman remembered as Elizabeth Lynd who has been remembered as Jacob's mother--obviously step mother. If there is any accuracy to that memory based on a picture of her in the possession of my cousin, she would be Leonard Lynd's third wife which he married after Agnes died, March 9, 1884, according to Hillside cemetery records. Leonard was 67 when Agnes died.

My cousin and I are the surviving Missouri grandchildren of Emeline (Laura Emmaline) Lynd.
